Our Story- In a nutshell
“You know you're in love when you can't fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.”
Her Story
The week leading up to our engagement was a long week! I was in Champagne, France for work as well as to celebrate both of our birthdays. I was so excited to have Adam meeting me in France for a 10-day road trip through France and Switzerland. I could hardly stay focused with work! I met Adam at the train in Champagne where we spent a few days and then we headed to Alsace. Our first stop was Kaysersberg Alsace, France. The only words to describe this town (and the region itself) are ‘fairytale’ and ‘enchanting’. Just across the Rhine is the fabled Black Forest, the inspiration for tales such as Hansel and Gretel, Snow White, and Cinderella. The morning of the first day in Kaysersberg Alsace, France we walked around the town; enjoying the beautiful scenery and watching the birds play in the rain. It was peaceful. We discovered a trail leading to the vineyards overlooking the town. It was extremely cold so we had our wool coats on, scarves, and gloves. As we were strolling along the trail, holding hands, enjoying the views, we talked about our life together. He asked me how I know I want to spend my life with him and I proceeded to tell him how incredibly happy I am to be with him and how wonderful it is living with him in our new house. We talked about what an amazing adventure this trip is and how we will look back years to come and remember this moment. Adam made the suggestion to take a picture of us. He positioned his camera in a rock wall and hit the timer button, walked over to me and waited for the light to blink. The camera was full and wouldn’t take a picture. Adam then said, “Get your camera it is in your jacket pocket.” This was unlike him to know where I had my camera, but I thought little of it and reached in my pocket. He proceeded to walk back towards me and at the same time I felt a little box in my pocket while we were walking. He then proceeded to get down on one knee and he asked me if I would marry him. I had a death grip on the little box, began to cry and say “Oh my gosh, YES!” about 15 times, before he asked me if I was even going to open the box and look at the ring! Through the tears, hugs and kisses, as I left him kneeling for what probably felt like an hour, he said, “This ring is really special, I had it made for you with my grandmother's diamond that she wore for all the years married to my grandfather.” And in Jenny style, the waterworks began again. Before heading back to our room to call our families we wandered into the a local wine shop, where a local girl greeted us and became teary eyed as we told her what just happened. It just so happened the vineyards we were walking through belonged to her family and her grandfather was the winemaker. She poured us a glass of Crémant and sent us with a bottle as a gift for our engagement. Our next stop on the trip was Switzerland to visit my godmother and ski in the Swiss Alps!
What an amazing engagement day and overall trip! I couldn’t have asked for a better proposal, a bigger surprise, a better way to turn 30, or a better man to spend the rest of my life with. I am blessed beyond words and couldn’t be more grateful.
His Story
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be one of those kids who grows up in a small town, goes to a high school where everyone knows everything about everyone including the names of their schoolmate’s-second-cousin's pet gerbils? Ever ponder what goes through the head of that little lad who hails from a place where snowpack reports are more important than the Dow Jones, and success can be measured by the number of days spent sleeping outside? To compound the issue, imagine the poor soul is blessed with just the right amount of curiosity to hurl himself headlong into an epic tale of exploration, self realization, and lofty dreams that ultimately land him in San Francisco as a young adult with far more responsibility than he had bargained for. Having a few years to stabilize, this starry-eyed young man in a suit still manages to hold true to his roots enough to engage in a last-minute river rafting trip with his childhood friends in one of the cutest backwoods locations in California: Weaverville. Unbeknownst to our hero, it is here, on a river near a town worthy of the title "Home of the Toothbrush, Because Anywhere Else it Would be Called the TEETHbrush", that he would meet the most extraordinary woman he had ever laid eyes upon - his one true love.
